Past Performance
The Carter Development Group is a national equity and inclusion firm based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We have over a decade of experience researching and consulting on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA), compiling quantitative and qualitative data, conducting analysis, developing presentations and reports with findings and recommendations, and leading change management strategies for organizational transformation.
CDG comprises 25 Associates who are experts in racial equity and strategic planning. We are adept in conducting research to understand your organizational needs, uncovering trends of inequities, developing criteria, benchmarks, and metrics to track growth, developing a strategic plan of action, hosting facilitative dialogues about race, developing and conducting professional development training, building curriculum across a range of DEI topics, and executive coaching. We have worked with all workforce levels, including direct service staff, mid-management, and executive employees. Additionally, CDG uniquely incorporates a branding and strategic communications approach with its clients to ensure a clear and inclusive brand messaging for the organization.
Consulting: CDG has provide Consulting services for the past 13 years (since its inception in 2011). The Ellison Model, a comprehensive framework for fostering inclusive communities, has spearheaded the consulting (and strategic planning) endeavors for various clients. This includes conducting a research study on best practices for residential life at Florida Atlantic University, which involved interviews and focus groups with student residents. Additionally, it facilitated an equity townhall meeting for Broward County Public Schools aimed at devising fresh strategies for enhancing school performance.
In 2021, CDG conducted an equity audit for the public library system in the Town of Brookline, MA. Our firm performed an environmental scan, collected data through focus groups and comprehensive surveys, and developed an equity action plan. This plan included 45 recommended strategies, metrics, and a timeline to enhance the organizational culture toward DEIB.
In 2024, CDG conducted a cease harm audit for the City of Asheville and Buncombe County, NC that included an economic development audit that examined the procurement and supplier diversity policies and practices and their impact on African-American small businesses. The audit resulted in 35 recommendations to improve equity in their procurement practices.
Training and Facilitation: CDG has provided Training and Facilitation services for the past 13 years, since its inception in 2011. In 2019, our firm trained 75 hotel and resort managers at Grace Bay Resort in Turks and Caicos on inclusive and effective communication strategies, leadership development, conflict resolution, and inclusive community building. The company faced challenges with internal conflict between staff who were native to the island and those who had migrated there.
From 2022 to 2023, our firm engaged with Maine’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Group (JJAG), providing 42 hours of DEIB immersive training over an 18-month period. The JJAG is a 24-member, governor-appointed advisory board responsible for supporting strategies to reduce racial and ethnic disparities.
Strategic Planning: CDG has provided Strategic Planning services for the past 13 years, since its inception in 2011. From 2022-2023, CDG worked with the University of Washington Facilities department, and its 1100 employees, to develop an equity strategic plan that utilized The Ellison Model 7-Step DEI Strategic Planning Process to develop DEIB goals around capacity building, professional development, a redesigned employee resource group, affinity group development, and supplier diversity goals. Our team is currently facilitating the implementation phase of their equity plan, which includes identifying the role of a DEI Officer and department and the launching of a revised DEI employee resource group.
